CAIFF will waive submission fee for CAIFF Alumni filmmakers. CAIFF is a 501C3 non-profit organization, so we understand what it is like to work on a tight budget, to help filmmakers we offer an early bird discount. We also have a discount for members of Withoutabox.

Yes, we will review and consider rough cuts and works-in-progress.

Do you require films to be made after a certain date?
For the 2010 festival, films must be completed in either 2008 or 2009.

Can my submission be mailed back to me after the submission process?
Due to the overwhelming number of entries we cannot return any submission materials.

How many times will my film get watched during the review process?
Each film submitted to CAIFF will be screened at least six times during the first round of the screening process. Your film will be evaluated on 12 industry standard categories.

How are films selected into CAIFF?
Screeners fill out a detailed evaluations of every film they watch. The programming staff and Founder, utilizes the screeners' reviews while determining the final selections.

Does my film have to be a world premiere to get accepted?
No! We are looking for outstanding films!

Do you accept international films?
CAIFF loves international films! Your film must be submitted on DVD (Region 1 or 0) and have English subtitles.

How am I eligible for the Bay Area Filmmaker Showcase section?
A film is eligible for our Bay Area Filmmaker section if the filmmaker currently lives in the Bay Area, was born in the Bay Area, or if the film was primarily shot in the Bay Area. Please keep in mind your film will be considered for all of the festival's sections.

What are the screening formats at CAIFF?
CAIFF screens films on 35mm and DVD (Region 0 or 1).

When will the 2010 films be announced?
Our final decisions will be announced in early January 2010. The festival programmers will notify you that your film is accepted.

How can I meet other filmmakers and industry people at the Festival?
CAIFF hosts at least one official party every evening during the film festival. These events offer filmmakers an opportunity to mingle and create buzz about their films.

How do I get people to my screening?
Everyone wants to be invited to a party, invite people to your screening and pass out your postcards to everyone you see attending the film festival and the people in Orinda.

Do I need to have all my music rights cleared to show a film at CAIFF?
It is suggested that you retain at least film festival rights for your music, whether it's a score or songs.

Can I re-submit my film from last year?
If the previous version was a rough cut or the film has changed substantially since it was orginally submitted.

If my film is not chosen, may I speak with a programmer for notes or feedback?
Unfortunately due to time constraints and the large number of submissions, we are unable to give individual feedback.
